Notice to Clients — Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act

Effective January 1, 2022, the No Surprises Act (NSA) protects you from unexpected medical bills in certain situations. As a client of Sonqo Institute, PLLC, we want you to understand your rights under this federal law.

What the No Surprises Act Covers

The No Surprises Act limits out-of-pocket costs for clients who receive care from out-of-network providers in specific situations. While mental health outpatient services provided via telehealth are not always covered under all provisions of the NSA, Sonqo Institute, PLLC is committed to full transparency about costs before you begin services.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

If you are uninsured or choose not to use your insurance, you have the right to:

  • Receive a written Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before your first session
  • Request a Good Faith Estimate at any time during your care
  • Dispute a bill if your final charges are $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate

To request a Good Faith Estimate, please contact us prior to scheduling your first appointment.

Our Commitment to Transparency

At Sonqo Institute, PLLC, we believe you deserve to understand the cost of your care before it begins. We are happy to discuss fees, sliding scale options, and insurance verification before your first session so there are no surprises.

Self-Pay Rate: $100.00 per 50-minute individual therapy session

Sliding Scale: Available on a case-by-case basis

Insurance & Headway

We accept insurance through Headway. If you plan to use insurance, we recommend verifying your mental health benefits and expected copay through Headway before scheduling. This helps ensure you have an accurate picture of your out-of-pocket costs.

Dispute Resolution

If you believe you have been billed more than $400 above your Good Faith Estimate, you may initiate a dispute resolution process. For information on how to start this process, visit: cms.gov/nosurprises

or call the No Surprises Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059.
